GTA 6 gameplay: everything Rockstar has shown
Rockstar has now shown GTA 6 gameplay at length. This page keeps what the company actually stated apart from what the footage showed.
Is there GTA 6 gameplay footage yet?
GTA 6 gameplay footage exists now, and it is Rockstar’s own rather than a leak or a re-upload.

An Extended Look, August 27, 2026
Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026 — on Netflix first, then on its own YouTube channel and the GTA VI site. It is the first sustained GTA 6 gameplay the studio has put out. Read the An Extended Look breakdown.
Captured on a PlayStation 5
Rockstar’s wording is that the presentation was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, and Netflix repeated it. What Rockstar has yet to say is whether that was a base PlayStation 5 or a PlayStation 5 Pro, and it has published no frame rate for either.
What the two trailers showed before it
Trailer 1 in December 2023 and Trailer 2 in May 2025 were both cut for effect. Trailer 2 carried a note that its footage came from a PlayStation 5, but neither put a player visibly in control, which is why neither settled the question this page exists to answer.
What GTA 6 gameplay looks like
Read this section as observation. Rockstar has published almost no written detail about any of it.
Observation, not announcement
Everything below was visible in the presentation and has been described the same way by outlets that watched it. It was shown once, in a video, and never written down by Rockstar afterwards — so it is recorded here as what the footage showed, not as a feature list the company has committed to.
Two protagonists, one control scheme
Control moves between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through most of the game. Together, the swap is immediate; apart, it takes a few seconds. The one you are not playing acts on their own — returning fire, helping with a robbery — and can be called by phone. Some story sequences lock the swap.
Wanted levels, and being recognised
The six-star wanted level is back, after GTA 5 stopped at five. Police respond to what is witnessed or caught on camera rather than to the crime itself, and they track a description, clothing and a vehicle as separate things — so changing any of them, or covering your face beforehand, changes how long the heat lasts.
Shooting, and not shooting
Enemies can be wounded or disarmed instead of killed. Particularly heavy hits pull the camera into slow motion. Several outlets described the feel as closer to Red Dead Redemption 2 than to GTA 5.
Stealing a car
Taking a car runs from breaking the window to working the lock with a slim jim, and better-protected vehicles carry electronic locks, alarms and trackers that need tools unlocked later on. A phone app scans one first and reports what it is worth and what is guarding it.
Taking the money
Robberies trade speed against take: forcing a safe is faster but damages what is inside, and there are second exits for when the front stops being one. Money is what moves the story forward rather than a score at the end of it.
What there is to do in GTA 6 between missions
The activities below all appeared in the presentation. None of them has a Rockstar description attached yet.
Vice City and the wider Leonida
The busiest streets of Vice City carry far denser crowds than GTA 5 managed, and interiors are noticeably more detailed. The Leonida Keys appear as a region of their own.
Racing, water, and the gym
Racing on tarmac and dirt, jet skis, kayaking, diving, parachuting, the gym, basketball, pool and mini golf all appeared, alongside nightclubs and the smaller texture around them.
The small stuff
Petting a dog, watching television, shopping, a phone that is an object the character holds rather than an overlay drawn on the screen. Rockstar has shown these; it has published no list of them.
What Rockstar has still not shown of GTA 6
Five things a GTA 6 gameplay page cannot answer, because no official answer exists.
A PC version
Still unannounced, and absent from the presentation. GTA 5 reached PC about nineteen months after its console release, but precedent is not a commitment.
GTA Online
No date, no detail and no footage. Rockstar has said the online component follows the single-player game rather than shipping with it, and nothing beyond that.
The size of the map
Rockstar has never published it. The comparisons circulating against GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are not the studio’s numbers, and this site does not repeat them as if they were.
Frame rate and performance modes
Nothing has been published for either console. Claims about a locked frame rate that appeared after the presentation have no Rockstar source.
A first-person mode
Neither shown nor discussed. GTA 5 added one on the later consoles rather than at launch, which is precedent and nothing more.
