GTA 6 FAQ
The GTA 6 FAQ this site actually stands behind: twelve questions, each answered from Rockstar's own material. Where Rockstar has said nothing, this page says so instead of filling the gap.
GTA 6 release date and platforms
GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date has moved twice since the reveal promised 2025, and has held since November 2025. Five answers here: the platforms confirmed, the two ruled out, and the one — PC — left open.
When does GTA 6 come out?
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The date has moved twice. Trailer 1 in December 2023 ended on “2025” with no month — and not even that was as firm as it looked, since Take-Two reports in fiscal years ending March 31, which overlap calendar 2025 by three months.
On May 2, 2025 Rockstar replaced the window with May 26, 2026, gaining an exact day while losing a year. On November 6, 2025, alongside Take-Two’s quarterly results, that became November 19, 2026.
Nothing has moved it since. Pre-orders opened against it in June 2026 and the Extended Look restated it in August. Rockstar has never announced an unlock time — the countdown is explicit about that.
What platforms is GTA 6 releasing on?
At launch: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nothing else has been announced.
There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version, which breaks with GTA 5 — that game spanned three console generations over its life. Rockstar committed to current-generation hardware from the announcement onward and has not revisited it.
No PC release or date exists. Rockstar’s own site adds one further line: Grand Theft Auto VI “plays best on PlayStation 5,” which appears in the Extended Look’s official description and is a marketing statement, not a technical claim.
What Rockstar has not published for either console is a frame rate or a performance mode. Claims about locked frame rates that circulated after the presentation are not sourced to the studio.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
No PC version has been announced, and no date for one exists.
There is precedent for one arriving later. GTA 5 launched on consoles in September 2013 and reached PC in April 2015 — about nineteen months. Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped on consoles in October 2018 and on PC in November 2019, roughly thirteen. Both were announced separately, well after the console release.
Neither is a commitment about this game. Rockstar has never publicly explained the gap, and the pattern describes what happened twice. It is not a schedule.
What is confirmed is the absence: PC was not mentioned in the Extended Look, was not part of the June 2026 pre-order announcement, and does not appear on the official site’s platform line.
Has GTA 6 been delayed?
Twice.
- May 2025 — the original 2025 window became May 26, 2026.
- November 2025 — that became November 19, 2026, announced alongside Take-Two’s quarterly results.
Neither announcement named a cause. Rockstar’s wording both times was about quality: “we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve” in May, and “these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve” in November. No feature, platform or production problem has ever been publicly attributed to either.
Delays are the norm for this studio. GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Max Payne 3 all slipped from their first announced dates. That is context, not a forecast — and the November 19, 2026 date has held since it was set.
Can you play GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. GTA 6 does not release on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and Rockstar has never suggested otherwise.
This breaks with GTA 5, which is the outlier here, not the rule: it launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, moved to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, and reached PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2022 — three console generations from one release.
Rockstar committed to current-generation hardware for this game from the announcement onward. The practical reason is visible in the Extended Look: outlets that watched it describe crowd density and interior detail well beyond what GTA 5 managed, and that footage was captured on a PlayStation 5.
The last-generation consoles are now more than a decade old.
GTA 6 trailers and videos
Three official videos exist: two numbered trailers, and An Extended Look — twenty-six minutes of gameplay Rockstar has pointedly never numbered. Almost everyone searching calls it Trailer 3 anyway, so both answers below meet that name first and correct it second.
When is the GTA 6 Trailer 3?
It is out. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look aired on August 27, 2026 — on Netflix first, then six hours later on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the GTA VI site.
Fans call it Trailer 3; Rockstar never has, and has never described it as a trailer at all. It runs 26 minutes and 49 seconds, and it is gameplay rather than a cut trailer: Rockstar’s own wording is that it was “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.”
That settles a question the August announcement had left open — whether the presentation would show the game running or a cinematic with gameplay implied.
Watch it and read the full breakdown, which separates what Rockstar stated from what the footage showed.
How many GTA 6 trailers are there?
Two numbered trailers, plus a longer presentation Rockstar has not numbered:
- Trailer 1 — December 4, 2023. The reveal, set to Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road”. It leaked roughly sixteen hours early and Rockstar published the real thing the same day.
- Trailer 2 — May 6, 2025. More of Jason and Lucia, plus written bios for six supporting characters — still the largest body of text Rockstar has published about this game.
- An Extended Look — August 27, 2026. Twenty-six minutes and forty-nine seconds of gameplay captured on a PlayStation 5, shown on Netflix six hours before Rockstar’s own channels carried it.
Fans count the Extended Look as Trailer 3, but that is not Rockstar’s name for it. Beware of re-uploads from channels other than Rockstar Games — several appeared within the hour.
Price, editions and pre-orders
Two editions, at $79.99 and $99.99, and a pre-order bonus that lands on either one at any retailer. What separates the tiers is equipment rather than story, and the bonus deadline falls the day after release — so most of what these three answers describe is a decision that can wait.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
Two editions, announced when pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026:
- Standard Edition — $79.99. The complete single-player game.
- Ultimate Edition — $99.99. Adds premium vehicles, weapons and apparel woven through the campaign.
No Collector’s or Special Edition exists — a departure from the physical tiers Rockstar has offered before. Prices are announced in US dollars only, and the editions page pictures every item.
Two details take the pressure off the decision. The physical release is a code in a box, not a disc, so nothing changes by buying it in a shop. And the Ultimate content can be added after launch, meaning the $20 choice can wait until the game is out and reviewed.
The $79.99 figure is itself notable: publishers had been edging toward $80 for two years, and the biggest release of the generation landing there settles the argument for everyone else.
What is the difference between the Standard and Ultimate Edition?
The story is identical. The Ultimate Edition is a cosmetic and equipment bundle, not extra campaign.
- Standard — $79.99. The complete single-player game across Leonida and Vice City.
- Ultimate — $99.99. Everything above, plus an exclusive set of premium vehicles, weapons and apparel that appears throughout the game instead of sitting in a menu.
Rockstar’s own wording is that the extras are “threaded through the campaign,” which describes where they appear, not what they unlock. No mission, area, character or ending sits behind the higher price.
Neither is required to finish the game, and the upgrade stays available after release — so nothing forces the Ultimate decision now. Every Ultimate Edition item set is pictured on the editions page.
What do you get for pre-ordering GTA 6?
Every pre-order comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack, on both editions and at every retailer. It contains:
- A ’55 Vapid Stanier, plus a garage at Ocean Beach to keep it in
- Period outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia
- A weapon pattern
Every item is pictured on the editions page. The pack is cosmetic — it does not change the story, unlock areas, or affect progression.
The deadline is the detail worth knowing: pre-orders placed before November 20, 2026 qualify, which is the day after release. Buying on launch day still counts. That makes the pack a launch-window incentive, not a reason to commit months early — an unusually relaxed condition for a bonus of this kind.
Story, characters and setting
GTA 6 is set in Vice City and the wider State of Leonida, the series’ Miami and its Florida. It is a two-hander: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, whom Rockstar describes as partners in life as well as crime. These two answers cover who they are and how much of the map has actually been confirmed.
Where is GTA 6 set?
GTA 6 is set in Vice City and the wider State of Leonida — the series’ versions of Miami and Florida.
Unlike the 2002 game, the city is one region among several. Rockstar has confirmed the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park as parts of the same world.
The correspondence with real Florida is close. Vice City sits in Vice-Dale County against Miami’s Miami-Dade; Grassrivers takes its name from The Everglades: River of Grass, the 1947 book that redescribed the real wetland as a river, not a swamp. The one invention is elevation — Florida’s highest point is 345 feet, so Mount Kalaga has no counterpart.
Rockstar has never published a map or a size for any of it.
Who are the main characters in GTA 6?
There are two playable protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval.
Rockstar describes them as partners in life as well as crime, which makes this a two-hander instead of the three-way structure of GTA 5. The studio has said it considered three or four protagonists before settling on the pair.
Lucia is the first written female lead in a mainline Grand Theft Auto — worth stating precisely, because it is often overstated. The 1997 and 1999 games let players pick from character skins including female ones, and GTA Online lets you build a female character. None of those is a named lead with a published bio and a fixed place in the story. Lucia is neither optional nor customisable.
The Extended Look showed control passing between the two through most of the game.
How this GTA 6 FAQ is written
Every answer traces to something Rockstar published
Every answer in this GTA 6 FAQ comes from something Rockstar published — a Newswire post, the official site, a character bio or a video description. Nothing on this page is sourced to a leak, a report of a leak, or an insider.
An unanswered question stays unanswered here
Where Rockstar has not answered, the answer given here is that Rockstar has not answered. A GTA 6 FAQ that guesses at a PC date or a map size is easy to write and worth nothing, because the reader cannot tell which parts to trust.
The third category: shown once, never written down
A third category sits between the two. Some things were shown once, in the Extended Look, and never written down by Rockstar — the six-star wanted level, the phone app that scans cars. Those are described as what the footage showed, and labelled that way wherever they appear.
